Table of Contents

Collectively the main streaming services include (collectively known as DSPs) Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Tidal, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, TikTok, and Instagram. You need to work with a reliable digital music distributor service.

Enters TuneCore, online Music distribution service TuneCore now offers multiple annual subscription plans tailored to artists in varying stages of their careers on many social media platforms including TikTok.

TikTok confirmed to MBW that TuneCore has been picked as its distribution partner for its new SoundOn distribution service.

Artists who upload their music to TikTok SoundOn will then have that music distributed to other platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) via TuneCore.

How can I make money with TuneCore?

When a subscriber streams your music, you get paid a proportionate share of TikTok’s subscription revenue per month calculated on terms set out in TuneCore’s blanket agreement with the store. Payments will fluctuate each month, depending on the amount of subscription revenue generated and how often your music was streamed.

What is Tunecore’s pricing model?

Tunecore has 4 plans:
A. The First plan is a free tier named “New Artist” this plan is for new and fresh music artists.
B. The second plan is mainly for “Rising Artist” for the subscription price of $15/year.
C. The third Plan is for “Breakout Artist” for the subscription price of $30/year.
D. The fourth and last plan for “Professionals” is for the subscription price of $50/year.

Tunecore: What it does best

TuneCore with technology and services across distribution, publishing administration, and a range of promotional services surpassed the milestone of paying more than $2.5 billion in royalties to artists since 2006. And has paid half of the $2bn figure in the past three-and-a-bit years alone.

For musicians the service allows artists and labels to build, engage and monetize their audience on streaming, video, and social media channels.

The company distributes music to 180+ digital stores and streaming partners.

TuneCore’s Plans

A. The Free Tier – “New Artist”

Technically there’s a free tier, but this will only get your music on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. If you want to get your song on TikTok only, you might as well use TikTok’s distribution service SoundOn which is the most direct way to get your official release up on TikTok as an official Sound

B. $14.99/Year – “Rising Artist”

For nearly $15/year, you can distribute unlimited releases to all the platforms with limitations. The biggest limitation that you may run into with this plan is that you’re unable to add a custom label name or add additional artists to your releases. Also, you’ll have to upgrade to the next tier up for $29.99/year to get the Store, Automator.

C. $29.99/Year – “Breakout Artist”

I’m a little fuzzy on what you get in this tier above the previous tier other than the Store Automator that’s worth paying for.

The transition serves as a major upgrade to TuneCore’s long-running DIY music distribution offering. TuneCore says its move to a subscription-based unlimited model will give artists the freedom to create more music while affording the flexibility to experiment with new release strategies.

Under the new model, artists will still receive 100% of their revenue from 150+ digital stores. Additionally, the company emphasized that its worldwide reach, dedicated artist support team, suite of publishing tools, and content review and rights specialists will remain part of the core offering.

TuneCore has been the service’s distribution partner since SoundOn quietly launched in beta in September last year.

In the United States, TuneCore represents about 10 percent of the 20 million songs on iTunes, and it accounts for almost 4 percent of all digital sales
