History 

Jiji is presently is one of the largest marketplaces for classifieds in Africa. Previously it acquired its main competitor in the African market OLX in 2019. This led to Jiji's presence in the Ghanaian market.

This changed their brand identity to reflect being - dynamic, flexible, and ready to adapt to the spirit of the contemporary Ghanaian audiences.

The acquisition gave Jiji Ghana to access 300 million people across five markets.

For a company originally from Ukraine, pulling off an acquisition in one of the world’s last huge, relatively untapped regions was intelligent.

From kitchen appliances, Cars, Phones, Laptops, Jobs real estate, electronic devices, and instruments, to cars, furniture, and much more Jiji features one of the largest marketplaces in Ghana.

Acquiring OLX transactions were supported by one of Jiji’s principal investors, Digital Spring Ventures.

Acquisitions

JiJi Ghana had originally acquired OLX and Cars45 to lay its footprint on Ghana's doorstep as a classified site.

In January 2022, JiJi Ghana announced its full acquisition of the Ghanaian-based classified advertisements website, Tonaton.
This was announced on Monday, January 31, 2022. Jiji already holds leadership positions in Ghana and Kenya.
Following the acquisition deal, both Jiji and Tonaton users will now have access to a larger network of buyers and sellers, which will significantly increase trading opportunities and aggregate user base in what is seen as a major market consolidation in the classifieds sector.

Investment

Pan-African digital classifieds company Jiji also managed to raise $21 million in financing from six investors, led by Knuru Capital in 2019.

The Nigeria-based venture, co-founded by Ukrainian entrepreneur Vladimir Mnogoletniy, has an East to West presence that includes Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya.

The classifieds Ad site has more than three million listings on its Africa platforms and hit eleven million unique monthly users in 2022, per company stats.
